They Say, I Say

They Say, I Say

In this Article the CEO of Netflix is addressing how far Netflix as a company has come. Originally Netflix started off as a website you could go to and rent movies from and then completely changed the game when it turned into something you could go to on your TV and on other devices to watch your favorite TV shows and movies. Since Netflix’s outstanding popularity it has made cable companies worried. Netflix began competing with cable companies until it became no competition at all. Cable companies were forced to create TiVo so your TV programs could be recorded and saved. Despite the cable company’s efforts, Netflix has come out on top every time. With things like Netflix original shows and the ability to watch complete TV shows and seasons all at once has created the crazed “binge watching” experience that others can replicate. The CEO goes on to explain “Netflix is essentially a storehouse of content, including movies, documentaries, TV shows and educational programs. Customers pay a flat monthly fee and can consume any content at any time from whichever platform they prefer. In a sense, It is the first major disruption of television, which has become the dominate medium since its inception and proliferation in the middle of the 20th century.” It’s actually pretty simple, Netflix has killed the cable company.
After reading this article it became really clear to me how much Netflix has completely revolutionized the nations viewing experience. Personally I have Netflix and so do my friends and family, and all of us enjoy it way more than regular TV, in fact some of my friends just have Netflix by itself. Everything I read in this article was more than true. My friends and I find ourselves “binge watching” shows constantly, sometimes it turns into a race or just one big viewing party. When I move away for college next year my roommate and I plan to pay for just Netflix. The thing I like most about Netflix is its ability to be accessible on the go on any device. When I’m in a car for a long period of time or in a plane I can pull out my phone and watch any show or movie I want until I arrive. If you don’t have Wi-Fi you don’t have to worry because you now have the capability to download anything you want.
Not only is it easy to access and view it’s also 20% of the cost of most cable packages so it’s clear why people cut the cord all together. Reed Hastings explains “The unbundling of cable is the TV networks’ worst fear; they would no longer receive regular revenue from being part of a cable package. Instead, they would have to compete on their own merits. Netflix’s success brings this closer to being a reality.” I like the dynamic of Netflix and if it were to disappear me, along with the rest of this generation would lose a popular thing to participate in. On a rainy day most people like to stay inside and relax, Netflix can help with that! Currently the program is the most popular among the relatively young, but at the rate its expanding now will soon be popular among everyone.

20 time weekend progress

Over this weekend I had a lot of major changes to my 20 time project. For one I completely changed my project and I no longer will be doing it in a group. I decided to change my project to something that I feel will really relate to fellow teens and peers. A really popular thing to do is watch Netflix, especially on rainy days and I feel like through my experiences with Netflix it’s safe to say that it’s not always easy to find something worth watching. So long story short I have decided to make my 20 time project about finding shows and movies that I think others would enjoy and I plan on watching and writing reviews on the ones I deem worthy to share. I think at the end of the day it will be something my fellow classmates will be interested to hear about and will enjoy. With this drastic change of pace I have been reading reviews and watching shows and movies other people have recommended.

20 time progress

So far my partners and I have been making progress in regards to finding places to eat/visit. Currently we have a list of places we have started to form that we have liked, a couple including the places we ate before the recent WPA dance. Before the dance my friends and I ate at Olive Garden, which is personally one of my favorites and I would recommend. Olive garden has good food and service for a fair price, I think it’s the perfect place to have a formal or even informal meal. My partners have also shared their dining experience before the dance and we agreed that both places should be put on the list because they were both enjoyable and good places to go especially before a formal occasion. We have also gone through our list and narrowed it down to the places we like best and would like to share more than others.

20 time preparation

To begin preparing for my 20 time project I brainstormed different ideas that I could potentially pursue, along with writing a paragraph proposal on one of them that I was highly considering. In class we had time to work shop each other's proposals by writing our personal opinions and adding positive or helpful feedback, because of that I got a lot of really good information and ideas. I also established a group of people I could create my project with and talked with them about different things we could try out. I took some time on the computers to look up different activities and popular places to visit around town. I had the opportunity to get a better understanding about the different things Cedar Rapids has offer, along with some of the other neighboring cities. I got the chance to narrow down some of my other ideas to one that I ultimately liked best and began thinking of different ways me and my group members could carry out our research and presentation.
